Fabulous Fine Art (Grades K-2)
Instructed by Daphne Jensen

Do you love to draw and paint? We will be exploring through sketching, painting, and sculpting beautiful works of art inspired by amazing famous artists. We will study and create famous faces, lovely landscapes, and simply stunning still life in this class of art making at it's finest!

When: Wednesdays 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Class Fee: $70.00 (includes a $10.00 supply fee)

At a very young age Daphne knew that art was the field she wanted to be in when she grew up. After graduating from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in fine arts, Daphne worked as a graphic designer in the advertising field for more than 12 years. Then when her second child was born, she started her own graphic design business and also started painting wall murals. Daphne's wall mural technique was featured in Family Fun Magazine. Three years ago her love for working with children led her to enter the education field, where she now works with kindergartners at Orchard Park Elementary in the Carmel Clay School system. Daphne believes all children have untapped potential in art and greatly enjoys finding ways to tap into that potential through artistic expression. She especially enjoys working with watercolors and pencil drawing.

Take a Bow!! (Girl Scout Badge - Theatre)
Instructed by Amanda Wood

This workshop meets the drama try it/merit badge requirement for brownies and girl scouts in Indiana. The scouts are split in three, twenty-minute sections where they will learn techniques in Improvisation, Pantomime, and Character study in a theatre environment.

Class Fee: $5.00 per girl scout (minimum of 8 scouts... can be combined with another troup)

Stage 1: Intro to Acting (Ages 9-12)
Instructed by Amanda Wood

This class is geared to children who are curious about acting or a natural affinity to make any flat surface a stage! "Miss Amanda" introduces basic acting tools and techniques to her students with imaginative games and activities. The last class will include a demonstration for family and friends. (Spring 6-week session)

Amanda Wood, a.k.a. "Miss Amanda", is excited to be a new instructor at The Simply Sweet Shoppe Studios. Her passions are Theatre and Celebrations! She has served as Managing Director and instructor for Indy Youthworks acting classes, camps, and workshops for the past nine years with her business partner, Kathi Ridley. They have produced nine shows and numerous summer camps. Amanda is the owner of I do…Weddings! and has been an event planner since 1995. Amanda has three children who have all been acting, dancing, and singing on stage, television, and film locally and across the country. And when she has time, Amanda enjoys acting in local community theatre. Her experience gathered from everything mentioned above allows her to offer quality programs and parties for youth in Central Indiana.

Mix It Up! Creative Mixed Media (Ages 9-12)
Instructed by Artist Angie Brooks

Mixed media meets eco-arts! Let's think out of the box and explore the art of mixed media, as we discover more interesting ways to create! Using paint, pencils, text, paper, found objects, wire, recycled objects, encaustic wax.

Class Fee: $120.00
Activity Fee: $15.00

Angie Brooks studied art at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC and the New World School of the Arts in Miami. Although, it was through her travels that she had her own personal renaissance and began to create art. "I remember standing in front of La Primavera by Botticelli and weeping." I returned to the states a different person. It changed my life.

She has worked as an artist for over 20 years, owning her own decorative art business, creating custom art and mural commissions and exhibiting her fine art.

She has used many mediums, from plaster, encaustic, ink, canvas, paper, text, organic pigments, oils, metal leaf; creating expressionistic organic imagery that explores themes of the sacred human spirit and it's journey, ancient cultures, symbolism, language, poetry, divinity, inter-connectedness and nature.

"My sensitivity to culture and life is always evolving, and my path continues as an emerging artist. Free to explore. Free to be. Each new work is a new journey to be creative, to be whole and connect to life~ and my creative energy".
